Red meat includes any meat that is dark red prior to being cooked. Beef, pork, lamb and goat are all considered red meats. Try to limit the amount of red meat you eat each week to three servings.

In addition, processed meats such as bacon, salami, sausage, and hot dogs should be avoided. A diet high in red and processed meat can increase your risk of colorectal cancer and make it hard to maintain a healthy body weight. Instead, substitute chicken or turkey slices at lunchtime. Consider cooking and slicing the poultry yourself for more flavour and fewer additives.
