November and subsequent winter months are an ideal period to test for radon in the house so that remedial measures can then be taken if the level is too high.

Of the 13 products tested, nine were found to have considerable irregularities and only four conformed to their labels.
September 2013 - An impressive $556,000 was raised in the Les Moulins region during the 5th edition of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life held recently at Terrebonne, which makes this the most lucrative Relay in Canada. A first for a Quebec community! So, Terrebonne shoots all the way up to first place in the Relay For Life events, overtaking its closest competitor Prince George in British Columbia, which raised $540,000.
August 2013 - Tiny gold particles could revolutionize the treatment of prostate cancer. This is the aim of one of the 37 research projects receiving a Canadian Cancer Society’s Innovation Grant this year. Of a total of $7 million, $2.6 million will be distributed to 13 Quebec researchers.
August 2013 - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) – Quebec Division will appear today before the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Social Services as part of the examination of the report on the implementation of the Tobacco Act 2005-2010. “Currently, smoking causes a third of cancer deaths, which are all preventable. For the CCS, it is clear that the fight against cancer will have to involve the fight against smoking,” explains Rob Cunningham, lawyer and Senior Policy Analyst, CCS. Quebec has 1.5 million smokers and urgent action is needed because tens of thousands of youths start smoking every year.

In a family-oriented and convivial atmosphere, dogs and their masters will walk to fight against cancer. The event will be followed or preceded by a picnic and there will also be entertainment as well as booths for canine health, training, and grooming at the venue.
June 2013 - A few weeks ago, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) launched a hard-hitting campaign to prevent skin cancer: The real price of tanning is skin damage. The visual used in the campaign shows Miss or Mr. UV’s natural face juxtaposed with their “hidden face.” This striking image is the result of what can be seen with the CCS’s special camera, the UV Photomaton, which shows the real and permanent skin damage caused by UV rays, even if this is not yet visible to the naked eye.
June 2013 - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) applauds the bill on end-of-life care tabled today by the Quebec government. The CCS also considers that the explicit inclusion of the right to end-of-life care in the bill represents major progress. The CCS will present its comments during the public consultation phase. In the 25-year period from 1988 to 2013, the number of cancer cases in Canada doubled, and it is estimated that by 2031 the number of new cancer cases and deaths will increase by 60%, attaining 280,000 cases and 107,000 deaths.

May 2012 - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) – Quebec Division would like to congratulate Quebec’s Health Minister, Dr. Yves Bolduc, for his leadership and the Quebec government for its decision to ban the sale of tanning services to youths aged under 18 years. Following Nova Scotia and British Columbia, Quebec is the third province to introduce this type of legislation.
May 2012 - The cancer death rate is going down in Canada, resulting in nearly 100,000 lives saved in 20 years (from 1988 to 2007). These are two of the findings contained in Canadian Cancer Statistics, 2012, a report released today by the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Statistics Canada.

March 2012 - April is Daffodil Month. This spring, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) would like Quebec to be covered in yellow, and this morning, launched a vast solidarity movement in the Montreal métro to encourage people in Quebec to support those living with cancer. Nothing is simpler than taking part in it! People in Quebec are asked to wear a daffodil during the month of April in support of those living with cancer.

The report’s conclusions point to weaknesses in our healthcare system as well as the need for vigilance where access to care is concerned.

March 2012 - The Committee on Health and Social Services made public yesterday its report on the study of the CCS’s petition on artificial tanning. The Canadian Cancer Society is pleased that the Committee is in favour of the prohibition of the sale of tanning services to youth and of a register of all businesses that provide artificial tanning services. The Committee also recognizes the health risks posed by tanning beds and their carcinogenic effects, and highlights the many gaps in terms of regulating this industry.
March 2012 - Too many patients with cancer develop blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and lungs (known as venous thrombosis) that can delay and complicate their cancer treatments. A panel of thrombosis experts from the Jewish General Hospital will present a free CIHR Café scientifique on this topic on Thursday March 29, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Java U Côtes-des-Neiges (5620 Cote-des-Neiges, corner Dupuis).

February 2012 - New, larger graphic picture warnings on cigarette packages showing the negative health effects of smoking are beginning to appear in retail stores across Canada. May 2011 - In a call to action the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) launched a solidarity movement at the beginning of April, Daffodil Month, for the population to display the daffodil as a sign of support for a parent, a friend or a neighbour in the fight against cancer. Thousands of Quebecers answered the CCS call in recent weeks and communicated their support for the fight against cancer in the social media.
