Same brain tumour, different genetic profiles
Many cancers are hard to treat because each tumour differs from person to person. But there can also be many differences even within a single tumour. Dr Michael Taylor and his team explored the genetic differences between and within biopsies taken from different areas of childhood brain tumours. They found that biopsies taken from different parts of the same tumour had different genetic mutations, which could explain why some tumours come back despite treatment. This new understanding may lead to the development of more effective and personalized brain cancer treatments.
