Leukemia is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in children in Canada.
It can take several years to collect and confirm cancer data, so the number of new cancer cases and deaths from recent years may not be available for some time. The most recent data available are provided.
Incidence and mortality
Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.
The most recent incidence statistics for leukemia in children aged 0 to 14 years are from 2019:
- 250 Canadian children were diagnosed with leukemia.
- 205 Canadian children were diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- 30 Canadian children were diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia.
The most recent mortality statistics for leukemia in children aged 0 to 14 years are from 2022:
- 21 Canadian children died from leukemia.
- 10 Canadian children died from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- 3 Canadian children died from acute myelogenous leukemia.
