Esophageal cancer statistics
To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.
Incidence and mortality
Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.
In 2020, an estimated:
- 2,400 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
- 2,300 Canadians will die from esophageal cancer.
- 1,850 men will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer and 1,750 will die from it.
- 550 women will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer and 510 will die from it.
