Treatments for adrenal gland cancer

If you have adrenal gland cancer, your healthcare team will create a treatment plan just for you. It will be based on your health and specific information about the cancer. When deciding which treatments to offer for adrenal gland cancer, your healthcare team will consider:

  • the stage
  • the grade
  • whether the tumour makes and releases hormones (functional) or not (non-functional)
  • whether the tumour can be completely removed with surgery (is resectable) or can’t be removed with surgery (is unresectable)

Regional refers to tumours that have extended into nearby tissues, lymph nodes or organs. Metastatic refers to tumours that have spread to a part of the body farther from the adrenal gland.

Follow-up after treatment for adrenal gland cancer

Adrenal gland cancer behaves differently in each person, and a standard follow-up schedule would not work for everyone. People with adrenal gland tumours should talk to their doctor about a follow-up plan that suits their individual situation. Follow-up care is often shared among the cancer specialists.
