Dr John Mercer
Dr John Mercer has been working with the University of Alberta for over three decades and has extensive teaching experience in the areas of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation safety and medical imaging. He also has a strong interest in research, publishing 80 peer-reviewed papers. Dr Mercer’s cancer-related research focused on investigating directed therapy for bone metastasis as well as an interest in the development and translation of molecular imaging probes. Dr Mercer’s international activities include his work with the European Union Framework Programs and with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Dr Mercer has served as a CCS board-level volunteer since 2013.
I was in total shock when I heard the diagnosis of cancer. Cancer to me was an adult’s disease. Being a 13-year-old teenager, it certainly wasn’t even on my radar.
