Happy mornings with Trottibus

The Trottibus Walking School Bus is a fun way to prevent cancer by integrating walking into the daily routine, and so much more!

A healthy lifestyle contributes to lowering cancer risks. Active transportation, like walking rather than taking the bus, is definitely a part of it. The Canadian Cancer Society’s Trottibus Walking School Bus is a fun project that helps integrate walking into the daily lives of the young and the not so young!

In brief, the Trottibus Walking School Bus encourages elementary school students to walk to school every morning. This supervised walk on a planned route with scheduled stops allows young Walkers to adopt healthy habits early on in their lives.

Schoolchildren are accompanied by parents, grandparents or neighbours. For them also, walking with children brings a lot of benefits: daily exercise, spending time with children, an original way to get involved in the fight against cancer and a lower risk of developing the disease. “Walking with the Trottibus is a good way to get into shape and start the day off well,” says Paquerette Fillion, a volunteer.

Get on board!

Implemented in Quebec six years ago, the Trottibus Walking School Bus has been adopted by 100 schools in 14 regions in Quebec with the cooperation of schools and partners, and in particular, volunteers. So, get on board! Whether you’re a parent, grandparent or a retiree, what’s important is that you like walking and want to make a difference in your community.
