A year of being stronger together – a word from our CEO

03 January 2018

Our CEO Lynne Hudson shares her favourite research and advocacy highlights from 2017 and looks for new ways to partner and collaborate in 2018

In 2017 we continued to deliver on our promise to have more impact, against more cancers, in more communities, than any other cancer charity in Canada. With your support, we invested in promising cancer research, important advocacy work and prevention efforts, and vital support programs for people affected by cancer.

To reflect on some of the great things we achieved together this year, we put together a collection of highlights and stories from across the country. Our list of Advocacy Highlights from 2017 outlines how our advocacy work led to some big wins against tobacco, helped reduce cancer risk for Canadians and improved support for people with cancer.

Our Research Highlights review the work of CCS-funded researchers who asked challenging questions about cancer, such as how to detect cancers earlier and how to improve the quality of life of childhood brain cancer survivors. Your support is helping answer these questions to save and improve lives. Your generosity helped us accomplish all of this and more – thank you!

We have a lot to look forward to in 2018. This year we will leverage the power of strategic partnerships to increase our impact as we work toward a world where no Canadian fears cancer.

To kick things off, we will participate in World Cancer Day on February 4. This annual global day of awareness aims to educate people and press governments and individuals to take action to help prevent cancer deaths.

The theme of World Cancer Day is “We can. I can.” I love this theme because it perfectly encapsulates the spirit of collaboration that informs everything we do. We cannot fulfill our mission alone. Working together, our community of donors, researchers, care providers and supporters will advance our impact against cancer in 2018 and beyond.

I look forward to celebrating new successes in the year ahead. Thank you for your continued support.

Happy New Year!

Lynne Hudson
