Toronto -

This morning, Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) Canada, an initiative of the Entertainment Industry Canada, announced that for the first time ever, all 4 of Canada’s English language network broadcasters – CBC, City, CTV and Global – will simultaneously broadcast a Canada-inclusive SU2C fundraising event on September 5, 2014. The Canadian Cancer Society is thrilled to be part of this initiative to raise money for innovative cancer research and get therapies to patients faster. Pamela Fralick, President and CEO of the Canadian Cancer Society, spoke at today’s star-studded announcement.

“With new, much-needed funding form this event, we hope to be able to find more and better answers, and to do it faster. We know how important this is to everyone dealing with cancer or helping a loved one who is dealing with it,” said Fralick this morning, alongside health care partners and supporting celebrities – Dan Aykroyd, Kyle MacLachlan, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

The Society is looking forward to the September 5 event, where celebrities and cancer charity representatives will rally North America to stand up to cancer. The money raised will fund collaborative interdisciplinary teams of scientists who will aim to translate existing cancer research into treatments for patients, fast. The funds will also support cancer education and awareness programs in Canada.

The Society is excited to be part of a collaboration that focuses on innovation, excellence and, above all, positive impact on cancer patients and their families.
