Canadian Cancer Society announces partnership with the Winnipeg ICE

WINNIPEG, MB -

The Canadian Cancer Society announced today that they are teaming up with the Winnipeg ICE for their Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, which unites the hockey community in support of the cancer cause.

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is the only national charity that supports Canadians with all cancers in communities across the country. CCS serves the more than one million Canadians currently living with and beyond cancer. Funds raised by teams and their fans through Hockey Fights Cancer, support groundbreaking research and vital services for people at every stage of their cancer journey.

The Canadian Cancer Society is excited to team up with the Winnipeg ICE to support people living with cancer and their families so no one has to face cancer alone.

Through the partnership, the Winnipeg ICE will be proud supporters of the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative and help bring awareness to Hockey Fights Cancer. The partnership will help raise awareness through the inclusion of the Western Hockey League Winnipeg franchise’s commitment supporting local Canadian Cancer Society initiatives such as Relay For Life, the CIBC Run for the Cure, Daffodil Month Campaign, and Plaid for Dad lunch.

Carson Lambos has been named from the Winnipeg ICE as an ambassador to the CCS. Lambos, a Winnipeg native is entering his second season with the ICE after a breakout rookie season. He led all rookie defenseman in scoring last year across the WHL with 8 goals and 24 assists for 32 points.

Carson’s commitment on the ICE will extend off the ice in his role with CCS. He will be actively involved in local awareness events as part of the CCS Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. Carson, along with his teammates will also visit local hospitals and participate in public campaigns with the Canadian Cancer Society.

“I am excited to raise awareness by working with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Winnipeg ICE towards this very important cause.” said Lambos.

The Canadian Cancer Society and the Winnipeg ICE partnership entails 15% of all Access Passes sold through the Canadian Cancer Society directly go back to CCS.

Along with the Winnipeg ICE, the Winnipeg Blues and Winnipeg Freeze of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League will also be partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society to help raise awareness for Hockey Fights Cancer.

By teaming up with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Winnipeg ICE are proud to be committed to a long-term relationship and helping provide awareness around the CCS.

The Winnipeg ICE are one of 22 member clubs in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The ICE are one of six teams playing out of the WHL's East Division. The WHL consists of 17 clubs located in Western Canada and five in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The WHL is a member of the Canadian Hockey League and has been a supplier of talent for the National Hockey League for over 50 years. The WHL is also the leading provider of hockey scholarships with over 350 graduates each year receiving WHL Scholarships to pursue a post-secondary education of their choice.
