Daffodil Month 2012 Kicks Off at Royal Manitoba Winter Fair

27 March 2012

Brandon, Manitoba -

The Canadian Cancer Society will kick off Daffodil Month at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair at the Keystone Centre this Friday, and raise awareness about a disease that will strike approximately 6,100 families in Manitoba this year alone.

With an expected 40% of women and 45% of men in Manitoba facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, there has never been a more important time to bring awareness about this far-reaching disease.

The Canadian Cancer Society will participate in the Opening Ceremonies parade and host a booth to talk to people about cancer prevention and how the Society is currently fighting cancer in Manitoba.  The Society will also have paper daffodils for people to write a message on and post on a Wall of Courage, which will be displayed in the “Main Street” corridor of the Keystone Centre.

The Society is also encouraging all Manitobans to wear a daffodil pin at the fair and throughout Daffodil Month (April), to show people facing cancer that they are not alone and to remember loved ones lost.  Pins will be available for a donation of any amount at the booth or from volunteer pin distributors at locations throughout the fair.  Visit www.fightback.ca to learn more about Daffodil Month and the Daffodil Pin.

Media are invited to the Opening Ceremonies of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cancer Awareness Day at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair on Friday, March 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the Brandon Keystone Centre (#3-1175, 18th Street).
