The Canadian Cancer Society’s Thingamaboob is a pretty pink way to pass on the powerful message that regular mammograms are the most reliable way to detect breast cancer early when it’s most treatable.

If you’re a woman who’s 50 to 69 and of average risk, commit to getting a mammogram every two years. While not every lump is cancerous, your chances of getting breast cancer increase once you’re 50.

The Thingamaboob shows the average size lump found by a regular mammogram is about the size of an apple seed, while the average size lump found by women checking their own breasts is the approximate size of a cherry tomato.

In Ontario, if you’re a woman 50 or over, getting a mammogram is simple. Talk to your healthcare professional or call the Ontario Breast Screening Program at 1 800 668-9304 to make your own appointment.

Join the fight against breast cancer by using the Thingamaboob to get the conversation started with the women in your life and pass on the message that mammograms save lives.

Other ways you can help pass on the Thingamaboob message:

  • Purchase a Thingamaboob for you and the women in your life and pass it on!

  • Become a fan on the Thingamaboob Facebook page.

  • Watch a series of three ‘Between Friends’ animated comic strips by Sandra Bell-Lundy and inspire your friends and family to take action by sending a light-hearted e-greeting.
