Opportunities
How you can get involved in the fight against cancer
The Durham Region Unit has a volunteer opportunity that's just right for you. While we welcome interest in volunteering with any aspect of our work we are in particular need of volunteers to help in the following areas:
Public Issues/Advocacy
Join our Provincial team, as you help identify and take action on cancer control issues which warrant advocacy and develop strategies to lobby for appropriate programs and legislative action. Training and support provided.
Volunteer Drivers
One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering as a driver is the chance to offer concrete assistance to cancer patients. We are seeking people with good driving records, a sensitivity to those living with cancer and who are available during the week. Schedules are flexible, training is provided and mileage is reimbursed.
Community Fundraising
If you have ever participated in one of our events, or ever had an idea how to make any event better, we have an exciting opportunity for you, your family or your group.
We are currently seeking motivated individuals to assist in the organization and implementation of our fundraising events; including Relay For Life, Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer, Daffodil Pin Sales and the door-to-door campaign in April.
Information Outreach
Materials: Help distribute Canadian Cancer Society pamphlets in any of the communities in Durham including Ajax, Brock Township, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby branch. We also need help with risk reduction presentations and displays.
Some of the other volunteer opportunities with the Canadian Cancer Society include:
-
helping people cope with cancer by sharing your experiences if you've had cancer or provided care to someone who has
-
providing leadership to help the Society achieve it's goals and objectives in your community
-
helping connect people living with cancer with services they need
