Get vaccinated

Some viruses cause cancer. Check with your doctor about whether a hepatitis B or HPV vaccine is a good idea for you.

Believe it or not, some viruses and other infections cause cancer.

It’s important to be aware of this connection so you can reduce your risk. It’s also important to know that many people who get infections do not develop cancer. There are lots of other factors that affect your risk of developing cancer.

Right now, for viruses that cause cancer, there are only vaccines for HPV (human papillomavirus) and HBV (hepatitis B virus). Reducing the risk of infection is still the best way to help prevent some infection-related cancers. Talk to your doctor about whether getting vaccinated for HPV or HBV is right for you.
