Kerry Powell's story

Finding the right answers to questions about cancer.

Kerry Powell
I really felt somebody out there besides my doctor and my specialist cared about me.

In 2010, Kerry Powell, who lives in Saskatchewan, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. Scared, apprehensive and overwhelmed by a sea of information about the disease, treatment options and prognosis, Kerry called our Cancer Information Service before seeing her surgeon for the first time. It’s a decision she’s glad she made.

“I really felt somebody out there besides my doctor and my specialist cared about me and wanted to ensure that I was set up to get all the information I needed to feel more comfortable. Wow, when you hear that ‘c’ word, it’s a very scary time for you,” says Kerry.

We know that cancer patients and caregivers need accurate, reliable and timely information about their disease, treatment options and the services available in their community.

The information specialists at Cancer Information Service have answered more than 1 million calls since it was launched nationally in 1996. It’s a fully bilingual service that is available to all Canadians with a question about cancer.
