Dr Jason Gilliland is promoting physical activity in kids.
Regular physical activity has been linked to a lower risk of cancer. However, the majority of Canadian children are not active enough. Dr Jason Gilliland is assessing the impact of the ACT-i-Pass program, developed with his partners, which offers Grade 5 students a free access pass to recreational services. Some schools have already integrated the program into their curriculum, and public health nurses are educating students about the program. Community groups and local school boards are also promoting ACT-i-Pass to encourage active lifestyles in children. This work was funded in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
