Drive people

As a volunteer driver, you will pick up people receiving cancer treatment from their home and take them to their treatment centre. You’ll be there to offer assistance at a time when they need it the most. And when their treatment is done, you’ll make sure they get home safely. With the kindness and support of volunteer drivers, people with cancer can focus on getting through their treatment.

The Canadian Cancer Society Volunteer Driver Program operates in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Red Deer. It relies on a dedicated team of volunteers who donate their time and vehicles to transport patients for active treatment at approved cancer treatment facilities.

To become a volunteer driver in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge or Red Deer, please apply one of the following two ways:

  1. Complete and submit our online application form.
  2. Print and complete the PDF application form and submit to your local Canadian Cancer Society office.

Your volunteer application will be reviewed and you will be contacted shortly by one of our Volunteer Engagement coordinators. Please note that if you are under 18 years of age, you must obtain parental consent.

You may also call our support service volunteer coordinator directly at 403-303-3520 or volunteer@cancer.ab.ca.

  • Volunteer Driver Program privacy information

To better serve our clients of the Volunteer Driver Program, we are implementing a new ride scheduler database as of May 1, 2014. Please be advised personal information about clients or drivers of the Volunteer Driver Program (the “Program”) is stored within this database in order for us to confirm the availability of our drivers and schedule rides in our electronic database. In order for us to administer the Program, we use a ride scheduler application managed by a third-party servicer provider, EdgeFish Inc, a California Corporation (the “Ride Scheduler”). We use the Ride Scheduler application to process electronic bookings, which means that your personal information will be transferred, processed, and stored in data centers in the United States. The two data centers utilized by the Ride Scheduler are located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Piscataway, New Jersey. While we will safeguard your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy, by providing the above personal information, you acknowledge that the United States governments, courts of law or law enforcement or regulatory agencies may be able to obtain your personal information through the laws of the United States of America and further that your personal information may be subject to the laws of the Unites States of America or the state in which your personal information is collected, used, disclosed or stored as mentioned above.
