When you donate to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), you fund the brightest minds in cancer research to improve and save the lives of people with all types of cancer. You power a compassionate national support system to ensure no one faces cancer alone. And you help create health policies to make life better for Canadians affected by cancer. With your support we can change the future of cancer forever.

You fund Canada’s best cancer research

Thanks to supporters like you, today about 64% of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least five years after their diagnosis. This is up from 25% in the 1940s when CCS began funding research. This improvement is due to advances in early detection and more precise, less damaging ways to deliver surgery, radiotherapy and drug therapy.

In 2020/21, your generosity enabled us to invest $46.8 million in life-saving research across all cancer types. This included $11 million to enable more than 150 clinical trials by the best and brightest researchers to test new strategies and to treat and prevent cancer.

You help make life better for people affected by cancer

Your donations help people find community and connection, build wellness and resilience, and manage life with – and beyond cancer.

In 2020/21, your support:

Provided connection and support to more than 210,000 people through our online community, CancerConnection.ca
Provided trusted information and compassionate support to 44,000+ Canadians through our Cancer Information Helpline
Brought thousands of people to their cancer treatments, whether they required transportation assistance or a stay in one of our warm, supportive lodges
Helped to launch the Centre for Cancer Prevention and Support (CCPS) to take discoveries from the lab to life faster

You’re helping to protect and improve the health of Canadians 

With your help, our advocacy efforts in 2020/21 led to new regulations to restrict e-cigarette advertising, increase taxes on tobacco products and introduce a tax for e-cigarettes. We advocated for the extension of Canada’s Employment Insurance Sickness Benefit from 15 to 26 weeks to ensure people facing cancer don’t have to choose between a paycheque and cancer treatment. And we called on governments to prioritize access to cancer screening and life-saving treatment for people affected by cancer during the pandemic.
