Your support means the world to us. Every dollar counts in our efforts to reduce the burden of cancer on Canadians. Thanks to your donations, we’re able to continue funding the most promising cancer research, advocate for health-protecting policies and provide trusted information, resources and support for every Canadian who is on a cancer journey. Thank you!
You fund Canada’s best cancer research
Thanks to Canadians like you, the Society has channeled over $1.3 billion to cancer research since the 1940s. In that time, Canadians’ 5-year survival rate has increased from 25% to more than 60%.

Now
In 2014, you enabled us to invest $44M in Canada’s most promising cancer research. Together, we supported 312 lead investigators and a total of 408 research projects and awards.
The Society funds research into all types of cancer, across the spectrum of prevention and risk, diagnostic tools, treatment, survivorship and palliative care. Read about the impact of your donations to research.
You help people living with cancer and their caregivers
Your donations have made the Society the most trusted source of information and support for Canadians. In 2014, we dedicated $69 million to this area of our work.

More than 5,100 Canadians got the support they needed through our telephone-based peer support program

Our online community grew to more than 46,000 members who supported each other through forums, blogs and sharing experiences

We responded to almost 55,000 inquiries from people with cancer and caregivers

cancer.ca welcomed more than 7 million visitors needing trusted information on all aspects of cancer, support and resources

We distributed 1.4 million publications on all aspects of cancer
You help prevent cancer
About half of cancers can be prevented, and screening for certain cancers can result in early detection, when the disease is most treatable. With your support, we’re getting these life-changing messages to more Canadians. We’re also funding research in cancer prevention to understand all of its causes and testing new ways for Canadians to reduce their risk of developing cancer.
In 2014 we launched
It’s My Life!, an interactive tool that helps Canadians better understand how lifestyle choices can reduce cancer risk.
You fight for better policies to support and protect all Canadians
With your support, we work with governments and legislators to bring about healthy public policies. In 2014, we committed more than $8 million to advocacy.

Tobacco control
We’re working to reduce the number of Canadians who smoke, and protect all Canadians from exposure to second-hand smoke.

Indoor tanning
We’re pulling the plug on youth indoor tanning to protect them from melanoma.

Financial support
We’re advocating for greater financial support for family caregivers, like the recent extension of compassionate care benefits.
