Hockey Fights Cancer™ was founded in 1998 by the National Hockey League® and the National Hockey League Players' Association. Since its inception, the Hockey Fights Cancer programs of the NHL Foundation (in Canada) and the National Hockey League Foundation (in the US), along with NHL® Clubs, supporters and fans, have donated more than $18 million to support the cancer programs of national and local cancer research institutions, children's hospitals, player charities and local charities.

This NHL season, working with non-profit partners at the Canadian Cancer Society, the American Cancer Society and the Movember Foundation, the Hockey Fights Cancer™ initiative will support a better quality of life for patients, caregivers, and their families. *

The Canadian Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society share a vision for a world where no one fears cancer. By tackling cancer on many fronts through a broad range of programs and investments, the organizations positively affect lives by funding research, advocating for healthy public policy, and providing the most comprehensive information and support for patients and their families.

Funds raised in partnership with Hockey Fights Cancer™ may enable these non-profit organizations to direct resources to support people affected by cancer, their families and caregivers in the following ways:

  • Lodges. Located across Canada and the U.S., lodges provide cancer patients and caregivers with a welcoming, caring place to stay that supports their emotional and practical needs when traveling far from home for cancer treatment.
  • Support services. Vital programs, such as toll-free help lines in English and French with cancer information specialists, are designed to provide current, reliable information, improve the quality of life and offer the emotional support needed for those affected by cancer, including patients, spouses, caregivers, parents and their children.
  • Transportation. Transportation to and from appointments is a source of stress for many patients – especially if they live far away. The organizations provide cancer patients with assistance in getting to their cancer-related care to help relieve this burden.
