Tests and procedures

Diagnosing and treating cancer can be a complicated process. It may involve different tests and procedures to confirm the presence of cancer, determine the type of tumour and treat the cancer.

Your doctor may order a variety of tests to check your overall health, to find out how the cancer responds to treatment and as part of follow-up after treatment. You may also need to have different procedures, such as endoscopy, biopsy or surgery, to diagnose, treat or monitor the cancer.

Special considerations for children

Having different tests and procedures can sometimes be stressful, especially for children. Depending on the age of the child and what will be done, there are ways to help prepare children to cope with tests and procedures.
