Physical Therapy
Also called: physiotherapy
Some cancer treatments, such as surgery, can affect a person's mobility. Physical therapy may be needed to help maintain or restore muscle strength and mobility and help a person recover. A physiotherapist (physical therapist) can assess and design an exercise program that will help a person:
- maintain or increase range of motion (ROM)
- improve mobility (such as walking or climbing stairs)
- regain muscle strength
Physiotherapists may also use treatment methods such as:
- heat or cold
- ultrasound
- massage
- electrical stimulation
- laser
- hydrotherapy
- traction
- acupuncture
It is important to give the physiotherapist as much information as you can about your medical and surgical history, so the therapist can make the best and safest treatment choices.
