Pain and Emotions

Living with pain is physically and emotionally tiring. If a person feels afraid, anxious, sad, angry or tired, it can make their physical pain feel worse. Having pain can also cause a person to lose their appetite and lose sleep.

Sometimes other events happening in a person's life can make it harder for them to cope with pain. For example, pain may seem worse if they are also worried about paying bills or concerned about who will look after their children while having treatment.

Talk to the healthcare team if you are having a hard time. They may suggest that you see a professional counsellor. Reaching out to a friend, a family member or someone who has experienced cancer can help you stay positive. If you find comfort in your spiritual faith, it can help you keep going in difficult times.
