Thyroid cancer statistics

To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.

Incidence and mortality

Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.

In 2017, an estimated:

  • 7,100 Canadians were diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
  • 220 Canadians died from thyroid cancer.
  • 1,650 men were diagnosed with thyroid cancer and 95 died from it.
  • 5,400 women were diagnosed with thyroid cancer and 120 died from it.
