SUPPORT CANADIANS LIVING WITH CANCER
Treatment of stage 0 melanoma
The following are treatment options for stage 0, or in situ, melanoma. The types of treatments given are based on the unique needs of the person with cancer.
Surgery is the primary treatment for stage 0 melanoma. The tumour is removed by excision along with a 0.5 cm margin of healthy tissue.
People with melanoma may be offered the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. For more information, go to clinical trials.
Clinical trial discovery improves quality of life
A clinical trial led by the Society’s NCIC Clinical Trials group found that men with prostate cancer who are treated with intermittent courses of hormone therapy live as long as those receiving continuous therapy.
