Multiple myeloma statistics

To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.

Incidence and mortality

Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.

In 2017, an estimated:

  • 2,900 Canadians were diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
  • 1,450 Canadians died from multiple myeloma.
  • 1,700 men were diagnosed with multiple myeloma and 810 died from it.
  • 1,200 women were diagnosed with multiple myeloma and 650 died from it.
