Kidney cancer statistics

To provide the most current cancer statistics, researchers use statistical methods to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.

Incidence and mortality

Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.

 

It is estimated that in 2013:

  • 5,900 Canadians will be diagnosed with kidney cancer.
  • 1,750 Canadians will die from kidney cancer.
  • 3,600 men will be diagnosed with kidney cancer and 1,100 will die from it.
  • 2,300 women men will be diagnosed with kidney cancer and 640 will die from it.

Chances (probability) of developing or dying from kidney cancer

Based on 2007 estimates:

  • About 1 in 56 Canadian men is expected to develop kidney cancer during his lifetime and 1 in 149 will die from it.
  • About 1 in 82 Canadian women is expected to develop kidney cancer during her lifetime and 1 in 252 will die from it.
