Esophageal cancer statistics
To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.
Incidence and mortality
Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.
It is estimated that in 2017:
- 2,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
- 2,200 Canadians will die from esophageal cancer.
- 1,800 men will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer and 1,650 will die from it.
- 530 women will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer and 480 will die from it.

Because of smoke inhalation and exposure to toxic chemicals, I live with the fear of cancer virtually every day.
