Risk reduction strategies for cancer of unknown primary
Risk reduction is taking action to lower one’s risk of developing cancer. Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) represents a number of different types of cancer, so there isn’t a specific, known way to reduce the risk. However, certain changes in lifestyle can reduce the risk of many types of cancer, and so might reduce the risk of CUP.
Be a non-smoker and avoid second-hand smoke
Smoking, especially heavy, long-term smoking, increases the risk of developing many different types of cancer. If you smoke, get help to quit. Avoid second-hand smoke.
Be physically active and maintain a healthy body weight
Research shows that being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing several different types of cancer. Being physically active and maintaining a healthy body weight lowers the risk of cancer.
