Treatment of recurrent brain and spinal cord cancer

Recurrent brain and spinal cord cancer means that the cancer has come back after it has been treated. It can recur in the same location as the original cancer or in other areas of the central nervous system (CNS).

Treatment options depend on several different factors, including:

  • previous treatment
  • site of recurrence
  • grade of tumour
    • Sometimes a low-grade tumour comes back as a high-grade tumour.
  • the person’s age
  • the person’s overall health
