Brain and spinal cord cancer statistics
To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.
Incidence and mortality
Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.
It is estimated that in 2016:
- 3,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with brain and spinal cord cancer.
- 2,300 Canadians will die from brain and spinal cord cancer.
- 1,750 men will be diagnosed with brain and spinal cord cancer and 1,300 will die from it.
- 1,300 women will be diagnosed with brain and spinal cord cancer and 1,000 will die from it.

Volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society opened my eyes to just how much work they do for people fighting cancer.
Celebrating cancer survivors at Relay For Life
For cancer survivors, the Canadian Cancer Society provides a unique opportunity to celebrate their courage in the fight against cancer. During hundreds of Relay For Life events across the country, thousands of survivors join together for the Survivors’ Victory Lap.
