Aggressive therapy is usually not necessary as these tumours tend to be benign. Surgery is the primary treatment for DNTs and is often the only type of therapy needed. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy are usually not used because this type of tumour rarely recurs.
Surgery is the standard treatment for gangliogliomas. The goal of surgery is to remove the entire tumour. Radiation therapy may be given if some of the tumour remains after surgery. Even without radiation, gangliogliomas might not grow for a long time after they are partially removed.
We all need our own personal support system, but no matter how good your own personal support system is, it’s not the same as connecting with other survivors.
Thousands of Canadian Cancer Society volunteers work in regional cancer centres, lodges and community hospitals to support people receiving treatment.
