Bladder cancer statistics
Bladder cancer is the 5th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers).
To provide the most current cancer statistics, researchers use statistical methods to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.
Incidence and mortality
Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.
It is estimated that in 2013:
- 7,900 Canadians will be diagnosed with bladder cancer.
- 2,100 Canadians will die from bladder cancer.
- 5,900 men will be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 1,500 will die from it.
- 2,000 women will be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 630 will die from it.
Chances (probability) of developing or dying from bladder cancer
Based on 2007 estimates:
- About 1 in 28 Canadian men is expected to develop bladder cancer during his lifetime and 1 in 89 will die from it.
- About 1 in 78 Canadian women is expected to develop bladder cancer during her lifetime and 1 in 213 will die from it.
