France Desharnais, of Montreal, is a member of the Quebec Order of Chartered Accountants and a business development executive with Ernst & Young. Her involvement with the Canadian Cancer Society began in 2007 as a member of the Quebec Division’s performance assurance committee. Since then, France served as treasurer of the division’s board and is now its chair-elect.
“I am passionate about fighting cancer after losing my dad to mesothelioma. As a volunteer, I will do whatever I can to help fight all forms of cancers. The Canadian Cancer Society is my cancer charity of choice and I am pleased to serve on its national board.”
Even though we are high school students, we were able to raise so much money for the Canadian Cancer Society. It just goes to show what can happen when a small group of people come together for a great cause.
Great progress has been made
Some cancers, such as thyroid and testicular, have survival rates of over 90%. Other cancers, such as pancreatic, brain and esophageal, continue to have very low survival rates.
