Together, we are stronger.
Currently the co-owner of a bed and breakfast in New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island, Elizabeth Newson retired from a distinguished career in health and social services in 2005. Following a term as a CUSO volunteer in Nigeria, Elizabeth started her career as a public health nutritionist with Newfoundland’s Department of Health, and then joined PEI’s Department of Health and Social Services. With a focus on public health and the prevention of chronic diseases, Elizabeth worked in many different roles at the department, including nutrition program coordinator, health policy analyst and primary health care evaluator. She also served on many federal-provincial health-related committees and as president of Dietitians of Canada in the early 1990s.
A longtime canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society, Elizabeth fully understands the dedication and commitment given by the Society’s volunteers. She made the transition to various volunteer roles with the Society by serving on PEI Division’s Board of Directors since 2006 and taking on the role of President Elect in 2009. She has been a member of the National Board of Directors since 2007, serving as National Board Chair from 2010 to 2012.
"As Past Chair, I look forward to continuing to serve the Society in the year ahead."
Advocating for cancer patients
Our staff and volunteers meet with elected officials from local, provincial and national governments to persuade them to make the fight against cancer one of their top priorities.
