Dr Michael Woods

Dr Michael Woods of St. John’s, Newfoundland, is a research scientist and an assistant professor in the faculty of medicine at Memorial University.

A Canadian Cancer Society-funded researcher, Dr Woods has an interest in the field of cancer genetics, particularly the hereditary aspects of colorectal cancer. In addition to his work as a cancer researcher, Dr Woods has been involved in several other aspects of the Society’s work.

He took part in the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute’s grant review panels to award funding to the most deserving cancer research projects, and has been involved with the board of the Society’s Newfoundland/Labrador Division since 2008. He served as vice-president and is currently the board’s president.

“To successfully fight cancer we must first understand cancer. Research provides the knowledge to target the specific weaknesses of cancer and allows us to combat this disease with purpose.”
