Dr Michael Woods
Dr Michael Woods is a research scientist and an associate professor in the discipline of genetics at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr Woods’ research focuses on cancer genetics, particularly the hereditary aspects of colorectal cancer and identifying new genes and genetic variants. The Canadian Cancer Society funded his post-doctoral research at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute in Toronto and as a new investigator at Memorial University after he received his PhD in 2001. Dr Woods was the chair of the board of directors for the Newfoundland and Labrador Division of the Canadian Cancer Society from 2011 to 2013 and has been a long-standing member of the national board of directors. He is a testicular cancer survivor who was diagnosed and successfully treated in 2003. He has remained cancer-free since then.
