Bringing a community together to help fund our mission

Asian Giving CommitteeAcross the country, Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) volunteers take action to help CCS work towards our vision of achieving a world where no Canadians fears cancer.

The Asian Giving Committee is one such group of supporters, showing how communities can come together to help all Canadians. The Committee was started 25 years ago not only to fundraise for CCS, but to help educate the Chinese-Asian community in BC about the importance of cancer prevention and the essential services offered by CCS to all Canadians.

Glynnis Chan is a longtime member of the Asian Giving Committee and is proud to be spreading awareness and raising funds on behalf of CCS.

“CCS is part of my identity now,” says Glynnis. “Our mandate is to raise awareness within our community. No matter how much time or money you give, it all helps.”

Last year alone, the Committee, raised over half a million dollars to support the CCS mission. In addition, the Committee is based in BC but is able to connect with the Asian community across Canada on a national scale through their fundraising telethon.

It’s also thanks to the Asian Giving Committee that CCS now has a significant presence within BC’s Asian community.

“Over the years, we’ve made great progress. People are now more easily able to connect with and support CCS, either through donations or by getting involved and volunteering,” says Glynnis. “Anyone can help make cancer history.”

CCS provides support and information to all Canadians and offers information over the phone in 150 languages through an interpreter service. You can learn more at cancer.ca or calling 1-888 939 3333
