Vector Aerospace Face Off Against Cancer

Takes the Fight to the Ice

NHL Alumni and hockey enthusiasts of all skill levels are lacing up for the third annual Face Off Against Cancer weekend hockey tournament, taking place September 23rd – 25th, 2016. We are pleased to announce Vector Aerospace will be returning as the title sponsor for this great fundraising event. The tournament is being held at the MacLauchlan Arena, Cari Complex, in Charlottetown.

We are extremely proud to once again be the title sponsor of Face Off Against Cancer 2016,” said Jeff Poirier, president of Vector Aerospace Engine Services – Atlantic. “The name of the game, just as it was last year, will be FUN while at the same time raising critical dollars to support the Canadian Cancer Society. We are truly honored to be a part of the society’s mission to eradicate cancer and to enhance the quality of life for people living with the disease.”

This charity hockey tournament features the Face Off Against Cancer Celebrity Draft event, held at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, where teams have the opportunity to add professional hockey players and local celebrities to their roster of players or to coach their team.

The event was launched in 2014 raising close to $98,000, and another $138,000 in 2015. The teams and celebrities had lots of fun, enjoyed some friendly competition, and were proud to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission – the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of Islanders living with cancer.

A new roster of off-Island NHL Hockey Legends, as well as many of our local celebrities and current Island hockey players, will lace up again in 2016. The star studded line-up for this year includes: Billy MacMillan, Freddie MacDonald, Rick Middleton, Bob Sweeney, Stéphane Richer, Al Iafrate, and Chris Nilan, along with many other Island celebrities.

“Cancer affects so many people on and off the ice so we are very proud to be part of this worthwhile event and to support the great work of the Canadian Cancer Society,” say NHL Hockey Legends, Stéphane Richer and Al Iafrate.

Tournament highlights include three guaranteed games along with the Friday night draft event, hosted by professional hockey announcer and three time Emmy Award-Winning Television Host, John Horrigan. The tournament ends with a final game that pits the NHL celebrities against the top fundraising team. All games are open to the public.

“Support from the NHL alumni and the Island community has been amazing.” says Lori Barker, Executive Director, Canadian Cancer Society PEI Division. “We are very excited to have our teams and hockey legends take the fight against cancer to the ice.”

The top fundraising team gets first pick at the draft event. Space is limited, with only sixteen team spots available. Many of our teams from 2015 are returning so register early to avoid disappointment!
