Relay For Life 2016 Officially Launched

Five community leaders were announced today to join the ranks of Relay For Life Dream Team across the country.  These Islanders will be among fifty Canadians who have committed to leading through example by raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer for PEI.


The 2016 Relay For Life Dream Team Members PEI:

  • Cameron Beach, Associate Dealer, Canadian Tire Charlottetown
  • Bernard Gillis, General Manager of Provincial Credit Union
  • Jessica Gillis, Articled Clerk with Cox & Palmer
  • Dr. Christian Lacroix, Vice-President Academic at UPEI
  • Dr. Trina Stewart, Family Physician and Provincial Dermatology Association

Relay For Life is the largest annual fundraising event on PEI in the fight against ALL cancers. Last year over 1,000 Islanders participated, creating more than 100 teams and raising almost $300,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI.


“One hundred percent of the funds raised in PEI are invested to benefit Islanders,” explains Canadian Cancer Society PEI, Executive Director, Lori Barker. “About 40% of all funds raised for the Society in PEI are raised through Relay For Life making it our single largest source of funding.”

All Relay events start at 6 p.m., end at midnight and include the following:

  1. Team - families, co-workers, friends and neighbours create teams, team names, decorate campsites and some even come in costume
  2. Community - everyone gets to show their support for people with cancer and remember those they've lost during the Survivor and Luminary Ceremonies
  3. Fun - games and enterainment for the young and young at heart
  4. Fitness - any age or fitness level is welcome, you can walk 5 laps, 5 km or much more
  5. Giveback - Relay For Life is a fundraising event giving participants the chance to change cancer forever
