Credit Unions of PEI named Maritimes Outstanding Sponsorship Partner

On Wednesday June 1st, Credit Unions of PEI was recognized as the Outstanding Sponsorship Partner at the 30th Annual Maritime Philanthropy Awards put on by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Halifax. The Island organization was nominated by the Canadian Cancer Society PEI and selected as top- in- class, in one of the most competitive categories.

“It was such an honor to be nominated,” explains Doug Bridges, Marketing and Communications Officer. “There are many deserving businesses who give so much back to community. We have thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, and we look forward to another year of Relay for Life across the province.”

Credit Unions of PEI have contributed close to $462,790 to cancer in PEI since the partnership began in 2006 - $282,790 of that was raised by their 200 employees with the remainder coming from their corporate sponsorship. They have also provided significant support through in-kind donations; such as, advertising and marketing activities that have been integral in raising awareness of both Relay For Life and the Canadian Cancer Society. Because of the partnership, the Society has been able to assist thousands of Islanders and their families through a cancer journey.

“Nominating the Credit Unions was a no- brainer,” shares Lori Barker, Executive Director, Canadian Cancer Society PEI. “Since the partnership began ten years ago, PEI Credit Unions have been an ideal corporate partner, working in collaboration with the Society to have the most impact possible. Through their sponsorship they have increased their staff's involvement with the Society, educated their stakeholders about cancer prevention and raised significant funds to assist in the delivery of the Society’s programs on PEI.

The PEI Credit Unions have effectively leveraged their corporate investment to yield impact we wouldn't have imagined possible at the beginning of the relationship.”
