Summerside, PE -

City of Summerside encourages Islanders to get registered for Relay 2016

The Canadian Cancer Society PEI is grateful to the City of Summerside for their long-term support of Relay for Life. In 2015, Relay for Life PEI raised almost $300,000 to provide cancer support services and research. This amount accounts for almost 40% of all funds raised for the Canadian Cancer Society PEI annually. Once again, the City of Summerside will be a proud sponsor of the event by donating the Veteran’s Convention Centre venue at Credit Union Place.

“The awareness, advocacy and educational opportunities provided through this inspiring event reach far beyond the dollars raised” stated Christian Gallant, Relay for Life Coordinator. Relay for Life Summerside takes place this year on Friday, June 10th at 6pm at the Red Shores Summerside Raceway.

Registration is $15 per person and everyone is encouraged to raise funds if possible to support the fight against cancer. The event itself is an inspiring, festival-like, family- friendly evening that includes games and entertainment, a moving ‘candle’ lighting ceremony, and the chance to walk, run or jog the track. In addition to raising funds, this is an important opportunity for community members to gather each year to honor those who have been affected by cancer and to celebrate those who have survived.
