Canadian Cancer Society PEI honours their volunteers
The Canadian Cancer Society PEI acknowledged the achievements of volunteers and donors at the annual Volunteer and Donor Awards Ceremony on April 28th.  The awards took place at Government House where 10 individuals and groups were awarded for their outstanding efforts and dedication to the Society in front of a crowd of about 75 people.

Heidi Burt and Chelsea Merry were presented with the Leaders of Tomorrow Award.  This award recognizes volunteers under 30 years of age who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer efforts and served as leaders and role models in their community.  Both Burt and Merry have been volunteering with the Relay for Life since 2008.

The society presented Dr. Bill Whelan with the Outstanding Service Award for his exceptional dedication to the Society.  For 12 years, he has been committed to forwarding the Society as an active member of the local Board of Directors, a member of the Society’s National Board of Directors, National Governance Subcommittee and Chair the PEI Nominating Committee and PEI Board of Directors. “My involvement with the Society has enriched my life more than I can say so receiving an award for it is very special for me” says Whelan.

The Medal of Courage, a national award, was presented to Diane Devitt.  Devitt has demonstrated exceptional courage and serves as an inspiration and role model to others.  Devitt’s incredible strength and commitment has assisted the Society greatly in the mission to eradicate cancer and to enhance the life of people living with cancer.
