Volunteers celebrated

06 May 2015

Charlottetown -

The Canadian Cancer Society celebrated the important contribution of its volunteers at a ceremony recently, at Fanningbank.  Lieutenant Governor Frank Lewis (right), Honorary Patron of the Society, presented awards to eleven groups and individuals.   The National Medal of Courage was bestowed upon Janet MacQuarrie of Cornwall (middle), for demonstrating exceptional courage in her personal battle with cancer and being an inspirational role model to others.

Dr. Philip Champion (left) received the award for Excellence in Medicine and Health.  Dr. Champion was commended for his dedication, especially during a time when there was an extreme shortage of medical oncologists on the Island.

“We are pleased and proud to recognize the contributions of our volunteers. Without their support, commitment and dedication, the Society would not be able to deliver on its mission to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of Islanders living with cancer," says board chair Ken Hubley.
