NHL Alumni and hockey enthusiasts of all skill levels are lacing up for the second annual Face Off Against Cancer week-end hockey tournament, September 25 - 27th, 2015. The event is being held at the Cari Complex in Charlottetown.

This charity hockey tournament features the Face Off Against Cancer Celebrity Draft event, where teams will have the opportunity to add professional hockey players and local celebrities to their roster of players or to coach their team.

Face Off Against Cancer took the fight against cancer to the ice for the first time in 2014, raising close to $98,000. The teams and celebrities had lots of fun and of course a bit of friendly competition, and were proud to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission – the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of Islanders living with cancer.

A new roster of off Island NHL Hockey Legends as well as many of our local celebrities and current Island hockey players will lace up again in 2015. The star studded line-up for this year includes: Ron Duguay, Rick Middleton, Bob Sweeney, Stéphane Richer, Al Iafrate, and Dennis Maruk.

“Cancer affects so many people on and off the ice, I am very proud to be part of this worthwhile event and support the great work of the Canadian Cancer Society,” says NHL Hockey Legend, Ron Duguay.

Tournament highlights include: three guaranteed games, the Friday night draft event to be held at Red Shores Race Track and Casino, hosted by professional hockey announcer and three time Emmy Award-Winning Television Host, John Horrigan, the Red Carpet Opening Ceremony featuring the Parade of Champions and survivor puck drop.

“Support from the NHL alumni and the Island community has been impressive.” says Jane Farquharson, Canadian Cancer Society, P.E.I. Division, Executive Director. “We are very excited to have our teams and hockey legends take the fight to the ice.”

Island celebrities joining the NHL Hockey Legends in this year’s event include: Billy MacMillan, Bobby MacMillan, Errol Thompson, Al MacAdam, Dave “Tucker” Flanagan, Billy McGuigan, Matt Boyle, and Freddy MacDonald. Additions to the celebrity line-up will be announced in upcoming months.

The top fundraising team gets first pick at the Draft event. Space is limited, with only sixteen team spots available. Many of our teams from 2014 are returning so register early to avoid disappointment!  An early bird draw for a VIP luxury team package is available for teams registering on-line by May 31st.
