Island Musicians gather in support of the Canadian Cancer Society

A testament to their community spirit, a number of Prince Edward Island musicians are coming together despite busy touring schedules for one night of music and friendship in support of the Canadian Cancer Society on Thursday, November 26th.
The Society was incredibly excited when Meaghan Blanchard agreed to join the 2015 Dream Team. This is a group of community leaders from across the Island who have committed to raising an impressive $5,000 each in support of the Society’s mission.

Meaghan was proud to join the fight against cancer to do something special in memory of her Aunt Anne who passed away from cancer. “Anne was one of my biggest fans, from my earliest days of performing. She would call everyone she knew to tell them when I was on the radio or being interviewed on TV.

Meaghan has tears in her eyes as she reflects back on her aunt’s journey with cancer. “When she got sick, it all happened so quickly. I was on tour when I got the news that she had passed away. I cried the entire way home. She was my biggest supporter and it hit me like a bus. I had been writing her a card to tell her how much she meant to me but I didn't make it home in time to give it to her. Anne is buried in her hometown of Crapaud overlooking beautiful Victoria by the Sea. Every time I hit the road for a tour I make sure that I give her two car honks and a wave as I pass by on the highway, and I do the same when I arrive home safe and sound. I know that she's still thinking of me, so I want her to know that I'm thinking of her, too.”

And for this special night, Meaghan will be bringing to the stage some of the Island’s best talent. For only $25 guests will enjoy tunes by songwriters Meaghan Blanchard, Dennis Ellsworth, Katie McGarry, Nick Doneff, Emilee Sorrey, Mike Dixon, the Beck Sisters, Eddy Quinn and Catherine MacLellan at the Guild starting at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. The incidence rates of cancer on P.E.I. for both men and women are higher than the national averages.

These Island artists are thrilled to be supporting such a worthy cause for a great organization.

Tickets are available from The Guild box office at 902-620-3333, 1-866-774-0717 or at 111 Queen Street.
