Canadian Cancer Society launches April Daffodil Campaign

Donations support Canadians living with cancer and funds research to fight all cancers

Daffodil Month, held every April, is a national fundraising campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society. During this month, volunteers help raise vital funds for the fight against cancer.

Funds raised help the Society invest in the best cancer research in Canada. It contributes to efforts to influence public policy for the improvement of the health of all Canadians and to educate and inform Islanders about ways to prevent cancer.

Islanders are encouraged to wear a daffodil pin throughout the month of April.  It’s a symbol of hope to people currently battling cancer and a way of remembering those who have lost their lives to this disease.

“The daffodil shows people they don’t have to face cancer alone and that we won’t give up until all forms of the disease are defeated,” says Jane Farquharson, executive director of the Society’s P.E.I. Division.

Daffodil pins are available at all Credit Unions, Murphy’s Pharmacies, and P.E.I. Liquor Retail Outlets.

The Society’s door-to-door campaign is also underway.   “With the winter weather lingering on into spring, it is going to be challenging for our canvassers to get around,” says Farquharson.   “We hope Islanders will be able to donate generously when a volunteer makes it to your door.”

The Society is still looking for volunteers to help with the door-to-door campaign.  If you’re available to canvass your neighbourhood you are asked to call the Society at 1-866-566-4007.
