Primary duties
Working in a team environment, this position will work with the Assistant Director, Operations, Research Programs and the CCSRI team and be responsible for grant program delivery and meeting support to Program Development Committees. To maintain the high standards of our review process, this position will undertake a number of duties that include:
- Manage all aspects of the grant competitions, working closely with Panel Chairs and scientific reviewers to maintain the rigorous nature of the research peer review process of CCSRI’s grant programs: includes the intake and processing of applications, communications with potential applicants and panel members, preparation of information and confidential meetings materials
- ·Primary contact for grant applicant and reviewer support, develop standard responses to questions and coordinate additional support as required
- Testing of program configurations and support documentation preparation related to online grant system
- Recruit scientific reviewers for grant applications as needed
- Attend panel meetings and act as a staff liaison
- Arrange face to face meetings and teleconferences for review panels as well as Program Development Committees, negotiate new/renew external contracts, coordinate external vendors, track spending, review/revise invoices with external vendors, reconciliation of invoices and expense claims according to accounting policies.
- Manage collection of annual progress/end of grant reports for all programs, manage procedures for editing/dissemination of reports
- Interaction/communication with the scientific community (including panel meeting participants, grant recipients and research institutions)
- Responsible for timely updates of programs documents, and updates to the CCSRI website as appropriate
- Assist with budget recommendations and budget and accounting processes
Minimum qualifications
- University degree plus at least 5 years of related experience, or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience. Candidates with experience in cancer research and health policy are preferred, as are those with a working knowledge of the French language.
- Experience in a grant funding environment
- Project management experience and a demonstrated ability to work with and manage tight deadlines and orchestrate multiple activities to accomplish a set task or objective
- Experience managing project expectations within specific guidelines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative where required
- Ability to clearly and appropriately communicate with internal and external stakeholders

The Prevention Strategy Consultant oversees the development of strategic and implementation plans of a prevention strategy for the Canadian Cancer Society. You will work with a cross-country, multi-disciplinary leadership team to provide planning and strategic advice to advance cancer prevention work within the organization, leveraging the resources and expertise in research, policy and programs across the country. You are active and well-connected in cancer/chronic disease prevention nationally and internationally. You are a strong, persuasive communicator with diplomatic skills in building and managing highly sensitive stakeholders across a variety of prevention related areas. This position requires a strong, self-directed team player with at least 5 years of related experience in prevention, stakeholder management, strategic planning, and working within a complex multi-level national organization.
Primary duties
- Building on the substantive work done to date, develop a national cancer prevention strategy which includes:
- Recommendations for the resources and leadership structure required for better integration of research/policy/programs
- priority setting criteria and process for identifying key prevention issues
- development of evaluation metrics and reporting processes
- key indicators for success and goals for short/medium/long term
- recommendations for ongoing monitoring and accountability
- Develop strategies to better leverage current resources and expertise across the organization
- Identify gaps that need to be addressed
- Identify key partners and collaborative opportunities within and outside of the Society
- Identify and develop the key supports that are required for implementation of the prevention strategy
- Provide strategic advice and support to National and Provincial senior leadership
Minimum qualifications
- Post-graduate education in health administration, science, or other health related discipline.
- Broad-based and deep knowledge of cancer prevention
- Knowledge/understanding of public health, population health, determinants of health, health systems
- Experience with knowledge translation between research, policy, and programs and how all three integrate within the context of prevention
- Knowledge and experience with evaluation, evidence-based practices, development of metrics
- Expertise in strategic planning, and the implications for cultural change through this process
- Experience with large, complex not-for-profit organizations
- Demonstrated participatory leadership, team building and organizational skills
- Experience and proven track record working in cancer prevention at the national or international level
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills including diplomacy, persuasion and negotiation skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential

The Senior Manager of Community Integration and Partnerships provides province-wide leadership in the development of strategies, partnerships, tools, campaigns and program implementation to raise the visibility and accessibility of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Smokers’ Helpline in order to support and promote smoking cessation in Ontario.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops strategies that will promote Smokers’ Helpline through internal and external partnerships and by utilizing a variety of communications and promotional channels.
- Develops and maintains key partnerships with public health, other not-for-profit organizations, government and corporations to enhance Smokers’ Helpline visibility amongst Ontarian smokers at the provincial, regional and local levels.
- Leads and/or supports strategic tobacco control initiatives that further CCS strategic priorities. This may include externally funded projects, relevant internal initiatives or programs, partnership development, and campaigns as well as other opportunities as they arise.
- Develops and oversees social marketing campaigns, in conjunction with other CCS departments, that promote Smokers’ Helpline and smoking cessation in general.
- Oversees the management of Smokers’ Helpline Online, the Society’s web-based smoking cessation platform. Ensures that community services database and referrals changes and updates are communicated to partners and networks accordingly.
- Works with regional staff to coordinate with Cancer Prevention and Community Engagement departments to support local volunteer-led cessation education and Smokers’ Helpline promotion through training and development of relevant tools.
- Participates in and contributes to Smokers’ Helpline planning and the national quitline, implementation and evaluation and reporting activities.
- Represents the CCS and promotes SHL within the tobacco control sector through participation in relevant stakeholder and Smoke-Free Ontario committees and at conferences and provincial speaking engagements
