Ontario Produce Marketing Association 5 to 10 a day for better health

A supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society since 2000, The Ontario Produce Marketing Association (The OPMA) is a non-profit organization involved in the distribution and marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables in the province of Ontario. Through the 5 to 10 a day program, The OPMA encourages Ontarians to consume at least five servings of fruit and vegetables a day as part of a healthy diet.

The OPMA's Grower-Retailer program brings Ontario fruit and vegetable growers together with Ontario's largest grocery retailers to raise money for the 5 to 10 a day program, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The program features a specific fruit or vegetable during select months throughout the year.  With the sale of each featured item, a donation is made to the charities on the part of the participating growers and retailers.

Recently, The OPMA has also begun encouraging children to eat more fruit and vegetables with their colourful marketing campaign - Gimme 5.  Gimme 5 makes reference to five fruit and vegetable colour groups and, much like 5 to 10 a day, encourages the consumption of a variety of fruit and vegetables.  For more information on The OPMA and its initiatives, please visit www.theopma.ca.
