Volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society! Together we can make cancer history.
Volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society is a great opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, be part of a team, share your experience, learn new skills and develop lasting friendships.
We will all be affected by cancer, either directly or through family members or friends. One in 3 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
There are many with stories to tell about how they have battled cancer and won. They share their experiences in many different ways, but one of the ways is through volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society. You don’t have to be a survivor to be a volunteer but if you want to learn more about these amazing people who fight, click on over to our www.fightback.ca website and learn more about the difference that these people are making. To learn more about how you can join the fight scroll down to our many community based opportunities.
Empowering our youth: Volunteering within your own school
How handy would it be to be able to complete your community service hours on school property? By forming your own Student Outreach Committee, this is more realistic then you might have imagined. The Student Outreach Committee is a group of students who are able to take the initiative to work independently, to engage your fellow students in fundraising events and preventative awareness and to learn life skills that will stay with you forever. If you would like to learn more about how you can start your own Student Outreach Committee contact Natalie at nbeaudet@ontario.cancer.ca. If you would like to learn more about some of our other volunteer opportunities for students, check out www.my40hours.ca
Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities available now in Simcoe-Muskoka area:
Residential Canvass volunteers
Because cancer is in your community, so are we. Every April, during Daffodil Month, Canadian Cancer Society volunteers go door to door in communities across the province to collect donations for the fight against cancer. The money raised through the door-to-door campaign helps the Canadian Cancer Society fund life-saving research and vital support services for people living with cancer.
Be a canvasser! Go door to door in your neighbourhood canvassing for donations. Meet your neighbours or reconnect with those you haven't seen over the winter. Orientation provided.
Residential Team Captains are also needed to coordinate routes throughout our area. You will collect the canvass kits from the local office in March and distribute them to your canvassing team that has been provided for you and collect the money at the end of April and return to the office.
Daffodil Days
Volunteer just two to four hours of your time selling daffodils or pins (March 29 to April 1) or pins only (April 13 to 14) and you’ll be helping us fight cancer by raising money to fund life-saving cancer research and vital community support services in your community.
Relay For Life volunteers
Relay For Life is a celebration of survival and a tribute to the lives of loved ones who have been touched by cancer. Twelve hours of fun, friendship and fundraising to beat cancer. Communities from coast to coast, taking up the fight. Be a part of our team and help make cancer history.
Leadership roles to coordinate this incredible event are available.
Team Recruiters help promote the event to the general public, local businesses and community organizations to increase team involvement. Full orientation is provided for those who are outgoing and motivated!
If you just want to help out that day, we are always in need of extra volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students to get their community service hours.
Drivers
Help keep the wheels in motion! If you have some spare time, enjoy driving and don't mind using your own vehicle, we are looking for drivers to help take cancer patients to their appointments. Our transportation program is one of our most important support services we provide and we can only succeed with the help of our volunteers and their generous donation of time and vehicle. Full training and gas reimbursement are provided.
Peer Support
Are you a survivor? Would you like to help someone through the same cancer journey that you took? By becoming a peer support volunteer, you can work one-to-one with someone who is dealing with a similar cancer as yourself or as a caregiver to someone who went through cancer. You have to be out of treatment for one year and can be no longer than 10 years out of treatment.
Branch committee members
This position requires a team player who likes to work with others in order to further a cause. We need members in our branches to assist with their community goals and fundraising ambitions. As a branch member, you will bring information and support to your community on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society.
